D-Link Starts Pre-Orders for Gaming Router with Qualcomm StreamBoost

The DGL-5500 router promises lag-free uninterrupted gaming, media streaming, and more.

If you’re a gamer, get your credit card ready. D-Link just started the pre-order process for the upcoming D-Link Gaming Router with Qualcomm StreamBoost. Also known as DGL-5500, this router promises an AC 1300 wireless performance of up to 1300Mbps.

The real hook is StreamBoost, which made its big debut back in January. This new tech is designed to help users manage that overcrowded wireless network. After all, it seems like everything is wireless these days. We’re not complaining — well, until all of those connected devices cause our gaming and/or movie marathon to seize up.

Qualcomm StreamBoost can prioritize the network when you can’t, and it’s packed into all four gigabit Ethernet ports on this router. There’s no competing for bandwidth. Instead, the router handles it, to cut down on buffering video streams, glitchy voice chats, and online game latency.

Users can also tap into a StreamBoost interface and get a glimpse at what’s on the network, as well as which devices are being a bandwidth hog.

“The Gaming Router represents the ultimate in high-performance connectivity to give power users the ability and control they need to do what they love online without the concern or interruption of buffering and lag,” says Daniel Kelley, D-Link’s vice president of marketing. “Today’s action role-playing games and MMOs are more competitive than ever and with limited bandwidth coming into the home, gamers need to ensure they’re making the most of their connectivity to maintain an advantage. With Qualcomm StreamBoost technology, the new Gaming Router is designed to do just that — shape the network traffic to help gamers do more and lag less.”

D-Link is taking currently taking pre-orders for the Gaming Router with Qualcomm StreamBoost, with plans to ship on August 1, 2013. It’s priced at $199.99.
