Apple’s Competition: 6 Smartphone Alternatives to the iPhone 5

There are a number of high-quality smartphones that could prove to be big competition for the Apple’s iPhone 5. See how these Android and Windows smartphones match up as alternatives to the iPhone.

6 Great iPhone 5 Alternatives

These days, a smartphone is an integral part of any employee’s work day. For those employees constantly on the road and traveling for work, a smartphone is often the only connection to the office. The mobile device market is abuzz with talk of the iPhone 5, but for those who want something different (or can’t wait until the iPhone 5’s supposed launch in the fall), here are six non-Apple smartphones that could exceed your smartphone expectations.

HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE

The third member of the Droid Incredible family, the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE is set to become available soon. As part of Verizon’s 4G LTE network, this smartphone boasts a 4-inch Super LCD display with 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor. With the Android 4.0 OS and similar to HTC’s One series, the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE offers great speed and power, ideal for the busy road warrior – however, these phones do not offer expandable memory.

Motorola Droid RAZR HD

Dubbed the Droid Fighter, this sleek smartphone offers microUSB and microHDMI ports on the device’s bottom, plus a Kevlar back cover. Rumor has it that this phone will pack the RAZR MAXX’s 3000 mAh battery and an 1196×720 screen. Pricing and the target release date have yet to be announced, but the blogosphere speculates it will cost either $249 or $299 and be released in the next two months. This tough smartphone is ideal for employees who take service calls in rugged situations who need long battery life and a phone with solid resolution.

Samsung Galaxy SIII

Available on June 21 in the U.S., the Samsung Galaxy SIII has already sold nearly 10 million units worldwide. With a 4.8″ display and at 8.6mm, the smartphone offers a large screen that’s thinner than most. Features include S Voice, a voice recognition service similar to Siri, Smart Stay to save power, Smart Call for easy dialing, and Social Tag to match faces in photographs with profile photos in contacts. This phone will house a formidable battery, so this phone is ideal for road warriors who don’t always have time to charge their devices.

HTC One X

If you’re looking for an iPhone alternative that’s been tested and approved by users, the HTC One X might be the phone for you. Available around the world since April and available to the U.S. since May, the HTC One X operates on Android 4.0 and offers a 4.7″ HD super LCD screen. Featuring Beats Audio, this phone is ideal for mobile employees who want to relax and listen to music while on the road.

Nokia Lumia 900

The Nokia Lumia 900 is available for $99.99 (with contract), ideal for the mobile employee on a budget. With a 4.3″ screen, forward and rear-facing cameras, plus a number of apps, this Windows phone is designed for social media usage. The apps feed directly into common social media platforms, with customizable feeds on the phone’s homepage. Chats and texts can be aggregated into a single app, optimizing communications. This phone is perfect for road warriors who are focused on marketing, public relations, and other social media duties.

Huawei Ascend P1 S

The world’s slimmest Android, at only 6.68 mm thick, the Huawei Ascend P1 S boasts a 4.3″ 960×540 pixel touch screen with Gorilla Glass. Available in China and Australia, the phone is still awaiting launch in Europe and the U.S., where the expected retail price is $450. With a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, Android 4.0, and a lot of speculation, the Ascend P1 S is expected to be the iPhone 5 of the Android world – ideal for the mobile employee who wants cutting edge technology.
