Avnet Technology Solutions, an IT distributor, is now authorized to distribute Oracle’s Health Sciences solutions in the U.S. and Canada, including Oracle’s Healthcare Information Exchange (HIE) and Oracle Enterprise Healthcare Analytics.
With compliance and meaningful use no longer an option but a necessity, a solid HIE is a requirement for hospitals, regardless of size. Under the agreement with Oracle, Avnet will support healthcare IT solution providers and enable them to solve business challenges facing small and midsize hospitals related to accountable care, electronic health records (EHRs), and health information exchanges (HIEs). With the government mandating compliance, the opportunity for service providers is huge.
“That’s what started this development,” says Chris Swahn, vice president and general manager for Avnet’s Oracle group. “Realizing, how do I take full advantage? How do [the partners and Avnet] take advantage of it together? We look at it from top to bottom, and do not try to engage at an application level. We’re starting at the top, especially when we have company like Oracle with a full enterprise class application portfolio.” According to Swahn, the enterprise solutions are scalable to smaller hospitals of 250-400 beds.
Participating partners will also be able to leverage Avnet’s Data Center Lifecycle Services to provide hospitals with complete IT lifecycles. Partners are able to take advantage of HealthPath University, which educates partners on the specialized healthcare industry.
