The data storage solutions innovator aims to offer “compatible, reliable, and cost-effective network storage” for SMBs.
Data storage solutions provider SMBs Iomega Corp., an EMC subsidiary, has announced compatibility of its Iomega StorCenter ix and px series network storage products with Symantec Backup Exec 2010. In addition, the company announced hardware compatibility listing (HCL) for compatible products.
“With Symantec as one of the leaders in data protection, Iomega is demonstrating our commitment to SMBs with compatible, reliable, and cost-effective network storage for Symantec backup and recovery,” says Iomega president Jonathan Huberman.
For its own part, Symantec says the compatibility is key for its SMB market. “It’s extremely important to Symantec to have the leading SMB storage providers qualified with Backup Exec,” says Amit Walia, Symantec’s vice president of product management. “The Iomega partnership means that our customers have more choices for network storage targets in their backup deployments.”
With HCL listing, Iomega StorCenter network storage products are identified as compatible disk targets for Backup Exec software. Iomega products can be connected to Backup Exec via CIFS or iSCSI protocols, and have been tested as Basic B2D (Backup-to-Disk) targets and validated with Symantec Granular Restore (GRT) technology.
Iomega network storage products include the double-drive desktop Iomega†StorCenter ix2-200 Cloud Edition NAS unit, which ships with up to 6 TB of networked storage capacity, the four-drive desktop Iomega †StorCenter ix4-200d Cloud Edition (with up to 12 TB of storage capacity), and the new four- and six-drive desktop Iomega†StorCenter px4-300d and px6-300d models (available in diskless configurations). There are also rackmount StorCenter ix and px series models that offer up to 36 TB of storage capacity.
All of Iomega’s StorCenter NAS devices employ the EMC LifeLine software, a Linux operating environment that incorporates EMC’s storage and security technologies.
Iomega StorCenter NAS devices carry a three-year warranty with registration.
