The email archiving and management developer adds features to enable SMBs to access archived email via smartphone, including Android, BlackBerry, or iPhone devices.
For SMBs, the proliferation of smartphones and other mobile devices is introducing a new set of security challenges associated with email management and data retention.
GFI Software announced several new enhancements to its GFI MailArchiver this month aimed at addressing these issues.
GFI MailArchiver is an email archiving and management solution. Now, the developer says, the product enables SMB employees to access archived email via smartphone, including Android, BlackBerry, or iPhone devices.
According to GFI, MailArchiver users can now access, search, and retrieve their archived email through a new Web portal. “This enables SMBs to further capitalize on the efficiencies and versatility of a mobile, connected workforce without creating new IT management challenges,” the develop states in a press release submitted to Channel Pro-SMB.
In addition, GFI MailArchiver now includes customizable retention controls. IT administrators are able to specify which emails and attachments to retain by size and file type. They can also set a timetable for various file types (including large multimedia files), determining how long they will remain archived. This helps SMBs to conserve storage resources.
“The way SMBs use email is changing as smartphone adoption explodes and more employees gain access to corporate email via personal, or work-issued mobile devices,” explains Phil Bousfield, GFI Software’s general manager, infrastructure business unit. “That creates new email management headaches for IT administrators, with employees demanding uninterrupted access to all their email while using smartphones with different operating systems and inconsistent email retention and storage limitations.”
