HP unveiled two new high-efficiency, high-density uninterruptible power systems (UPSs) this week. HP says the UPS R1500 G3 and HP UPS R/T3000 G2 were designed for SMBs managing space-constrained rack environments.
The new UPSs feature new communication firmware, shutdown protection software, and an optional network management card. The systems can communicate directly in a variety of networking environments, including the Web and complex virtualized environments.
R/T3000 G2 UPS
The HP R/T3000 G2 UPS packs up to 3,300 volt amps ††and 3,000 watts into a space-saving, 2U (3.5 inches) design. Digital signal processor (DSP) technology ensures clean, reliable power protection in an energy-efficient, transformer-less design aimed at reducing generated heat.
The HP R/T3000 G2 UPS includes a rack-to-tower conversion kit for non-rack applications outside the data center (or to support multiple tower servers, wiring closets, and blade enclosures).
HP R1500 G3
The HP R1500 G3 is an ultra slim 1,500 VA rack-mount UPS. With up to 1,500VA and 1,050W, the UPS measures just 1U (1.75 inches) and provides significant power density.
HARDWARE & SOFTWARE
The new UPSs feature HP’s Enhanced Battery Management (EBM) technology, which has been designed to double the battery life within the HP UPSs.
“With EBM, the need to regularly replace and recycle old batteries is reduced,” HP states in a press release submitted to Channel Pro-SMB. “EBM features an advance self-testing system that provides a 30-day pre-failure warning, leaving sufficient time for customers to replace the hot-swappable batteries before trouble occurs.”
For additional management flexibility of connected and protected devices, the UPSs provide separate load segments, enabling customizable configuration of each segment’s power backup requirements.
The HP UPS R1500 G3 and HP UPS R/T3000 G2 are bundled with HP’s Power Protector software. They also feature serial and USB ports for data exchange with the host computer and remote shut-down.
The optional HP UPS Network Module provides additional functionality, such as scheduled shutdowns, additional operating systems support (including VMware and Hyper-V, and redundant UPS support for no single point of failure).
