The Modern Data Management Bundle includes Simpana software backup and content archiving and other protection capabilities for SMB users of Microsoft Exchange Server 2010.
Data management software developer CommVault is introducing a new bundle to its SMB channel partners. Called the Modern Data Management Bundle, the new software suite combines Simpana software backup and content archiving with a broad range of protection capabilities, including application-aware snapshot management, source-side deduplication, global reporting, and hardware and service recommendations.
According to CommVault, the software bundle stems from an observed pattern among SMBs of data growth, infrastructure cost awareness, increased dependency on messaging systems data, and upgrades to Microsoft Exchange Server 2010.
“CommVault’s new Modern Data Management Bundle combines a host of otherwise expensive functionality that Exchange administrators need to confidently keep pace with today’s dynamic email environments,” says Ron Miiller, CommVault’s senior vice president of sales. “This solution offers compelling cost and operational benefits to partners and their customers who have grappled with the pain of legacy approaches for backup and recovery.”
The new Modern Data Management bundle is designed to help users address a variety of data management issues common to several applications, including Microsoft Exchange, SQL, SharePoint, Active Directory, Hyper-V and VMware environments.
The bundle addresses recovery, archiving, data reduction, and policy management from a single platform and interface. “This eliminates the need for users to implement separate backup applications and archiving products,” states CommVault in a press release submitted to Channel Pro-SMB.
The bundle incorporates SnapProtect technology, which creates application-consistent snapshots of Microsoft Exchange environments in minutes without complex scripting. This technology makes granular Exchange 2010 restores much easier and faster than recoveries using legacy methods. The bundle also enables granular restores from previous versions of Exchange to Exchange 2010.
The new bundle also features a flexible capacity licensing model that enables SMBs to protect Microsoft Exchange and other applications and file types. “Users can change scope, scale, and protection methods at will and for little additional cost or management overhead,” the company states.
Pricing for the software component of CommVault’s Modern Data Management Bundle begins at $25,000 and includes extensive backup/recovery and archive functionality. The bundle will be generally available in August.
