IO Turbine is now offering Accelio software, which uses SSD/Flash on the compute server to solve I/O bottleneck problems in VMware environments. Accelio eliminates the common constraint of hardware-caching products such as SAN, NAS and caching appliances downstream from the host with no visibility into the source of the data they are caching. When installed on VMware servers, Accelio transparently identifies the highest priority data and redirects requests to the Flash/SSD, eliminating latency.
I/O bottlenecks can create poor efficiency and application latency, increasing costs and headaches for your customers. Typical fixes for I/O bottlenecks can be expensive and increased management complexity. With this software, Accelio addresses the issue at each virtual machine (VM), increasing application performance and throughput.
Intelligent automation of the caching of hot data to SSD/Flash storage means that users can implement VMware’s vMotion to full benefit, moving VMs among physical machines at will. According to the company, Accelio is the only software product that can provide granular performance acceleration at the file, volume, and disk level.
The Accelio architecture can also support virtualized and non-virtualized environments a swell. Deploying Accelio on a non-hypervised server with SSD/Flash can provide many of the same benefits, including increased application performance, granular control at various levels, offloading I/O from primary storage to SSD/Flash, and reduced spindle count for primary storage. Designed to be hypervisor agnostic, SSD/Flash device agnostic, and storage system agnostic, Accelio is designed to work with your customer’s existing infrastructure.
