ATEN’s Latest LCD KVM Switches Begin Shipping

Network administrators with limited server room space now have another dual-rail option in the form of these Slideaway models.

Manufacturer ATEN added two new LCD KVM switches to its lineup this week. The new additions came in the form of eight-port and 16-port dual rail LCD KVM switch models. The new CL5808 and CL5816 Slideaway switches complement the company’s line of LCD products.

ATEN's Latest LCD KVM Switches Begin ShippingBoth new models provide access to multiple computers from two PS/2 or USB KVM consoles. A single CL5808 or CL5816 can control up to eight or 16 computers. For expansion, as many as 31 additional compatible KVM switches can be daisy-chained together, providing the ability to control up to 256 or 512 computers from a single keyboard, monitor and mouse.

The CL5808 and CL5816 each sport a 19-inch LCD monitor as well as keyboard/touchpad modules that can slide independently of each other. To maximize server room real estate, ATEN’s dual rail design enables the keyboard and touchpad slide to the back of the rack when not in use while the LCD monitor rotates flush against the rack.

“Complex IT infrastructures in today’s businesses demand powerful solutions that provide flexible, convenient and centralized server room management,” explained James Hsieh, CEO of ATEN. “Our new LCD KVMs integrates the latest technology in dual rail housing,” says ATEN CEO James Hsieh, “with advanced technical features to meet the uncompromising requirements of enterprise implementation.”

The CL5808 and CL5816 models both support PS/2- and USB-based keyboards and mice. There is an additional USB port on the front panel to connect peripheral devices, such as flash and CD/DVD-ROM drives, etc. USB peripherals can be used to install software and OS patches or to create system backups to computers connected to the KVM switches. For users who prefer using an external mouse, there is also an extra USB mouse port.

ATEN’s latest LDC KVM switches are available now. The company is touting the products as featuring:

  • ATEN’s Slideaway functionality.
  • An external console that supports PS/2 or USB external mice and keyboards.
  • A dual interface that supports either USB or PS/2 KVMs or computers.
  • DDC Emulation, adjusting video settings of servers automatically for optimum display.
  • Broadcast Mode for broadcasting commands from the console to all connected computers/servers simultaneously.

The CL5808 and CL5816 are priced at $1999.95 and $2199.95 respectively.
