CompTIA Strikes Alliance with U.S. Small Business Administration

The trade association’s new development initiative is expected to make SBA benefits and programs more accessible to small technology companies and high-tech entrepreneurs.

Just days before its Breakaway 2010 event, trade association CompTIA signed a strategic alliance memorandum along with the U.S. Small Business Administration aimed at enabling organizations to share resources with the goal of educating entrepreneurs and SMBs about the SBA’s available tools.

The SBA says the alliance is part of its ongoing effort to support SMB development initiatives. The alliance is expected to make SBA benefits and programs more accessible to small technology companies and high-tech entrepreneurs.

For CompTIA’s part, it sees the new partnership as mutually beneficial. “We’re pleased to partner with the SBA to expand access to the myriad of resources they offer to a broader audience of established technology businesses, start-ups, and entrepreneurs,” says CompTIA president and CEO Todd Thibodeaux. “The vast majority of companies in the IT industry are small businesses. We look forward to working with the SBA to explore avenues to make small IT companies even greater engines for innovation, jobs and national economic advancement. “

The SBA and CompTIA will coordinate efforts to support entrepreneurs in the technology and engineering fields, making it easier for start ups and established small businesses alike to access technical experts for business counseling and information about SBA programs.

CompTIA’s Public Advocacy department focuses on a broad array of issues affecting the IT industry, with particular emphasis on representing the interests of small and mid-sized IT companies and entrepreneurs. Areas of focus include workforce education and training, tax matters, access to capital, health IT, export promotion, procurement, cybersecurity, and smart technologies.
