Trade Organization AIIM Plans to Launch New SharePoint Training Program
Upon Microsoft’s launch of SharePoint 2010 next month, the AIIM will roll out its certification program, which it developed along with Gimmal Group Inc.
Next month, after Microsoft releases SharePoint 2010 on May 12, the Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM) will introduce a SharePoint Certificate Program based on identified best practices from its 65,000-member community.
Development of the course came through AIIM’s partnership with Gimmal Group Inc., a content management and professional services firm.
Attendees of the program will learn the necessary strategy and structures for sharing and managing information on the SharePoint 2010 platform. In addition, they will learn about complementary solutions.
According to AIIM vice president Atle Skjekkeland, the new SharePoint certification program will pick up where many training agencies leave off.
“Microsoft and partners provide product and technical training on SharePoint, but a successful implementation requires a strategy and structure for how to share and manage information,” Skjekkeland says. “Many organizations looking to implement the SharePoint platform lack a strategy and necessary training in metadata, content types, templates, and taxonomies to successfully share and manage information.”
Gimmal Group president David Quackenbush agrees, adding that the new course provides “the knowledge that IT and information management professionals need in order to understand the components necessary for managing information on the new SharePoint 2010 platform.”
The new training course covers best practices for sharing and managing information on the SharePoint platform. The focus is SharePoint 2010, but the course will also cover SharePoint 2007 and technologies that complement SharePoint.
“Attendees will learn how to successfully manage content, records, and business processes on the SharePoint platform. We are excited to support AIIM’s SharePoint Certificate Program,” Quackenbush says.
The online and classroom courses aim to serve information management professionals, IT professionals, business analysts, line-of-business managers, and consultants.
Upon passing the online exam, course attendees will be granted the AIIM Practitioner, Specialist, or Master designations.
