Synology Launches Disk Station Manager 2.2 Beta
Media server features complete RAID protection, built-in firewall and expanded access to a host of environments and devices.
Synology Inc. has made available the beta version of its Disk Station Manager 2.2 product.
Disk Station Manager (DSM) 2.2 features a new DLNA-compliant media server as well as iPhone support, iSCSI support, Time Machine support, a built-in firewall, and SNMP support among other features. It also sports complete RAID protection.
“The new DLNA compliant media sever ensures interoperability between a Disk Station and a wide range of DLNA-compliant home devices,” says Rosiel Lee, product manager of DSM 2.2.
Edward Lin, marketing director at Synology, says the iPhone support has been sought for some time. “Two new iPhone applications, DS photo and DS audio, allow users to use an iPhone or iPod Touch to upload photos to and stream music from a Disk Station,” he says.
Highlights of the enhancements include:
- Apple Time Machine Support–Mac OS X users can now back up desktop data to their Disk Stations without complicated setup.
- iSCSI Support–Up to 10 iSCSI targets can be created on a single Disk Station.
- Auto-Block Support–Extends FTP coverage to the management UI, File Station, SSH/Telnet, rsync, and mobile devices.
- Surveillance Station 2–Now supports 50 additional camera models with more flexible layout management.
- iTunes Server–Supports video playback.
