Ecessa’s Link Aggregation Solution Works with Any Network Connection to Increase Bandwidth Capacity

Company claims its PowerLink WAN link controllers can achieve an ROI within four months, delivering a 60 percent overall bandwidth savings in the first year.

Ecessa (formerly Astrocom), a provider of WAN link controllers for SMBs based in Plymouth, Minn., says companies can now use its PowerLink WAN link aggregation products with DSL and/or cable links to significantly increase bandwidth capacity and improve network performance for the same or lower cost as they pay for a T1 line. Alternatively, according to Ecessa, SMBs can use the company’s WAN link aggregation products to maintain existing capacity at lower cost, with a return on investment within four months.

Any type of network connection can be used with PowerLink, including satellite, cable, DSL, and wireless. And, WAN link aggregation with load balancing can optimize underused WAN links, bringing added efficiencies to a WAN network infrastructure. †

Tompkins-Seneca Tioga BOCES, a cooperative educational services company serving nine school districts, is using Ecessa’s PowerLink aggregation capabilities to increase from 2Mbps of bandwidth costing $3,200 per year, to 9 Mbps of bandwidth, while keeping bandwidth costs at less than $3,000 per year. †”In addition to dramatically lowering our bandwidth costs, after deploying PowerLink, users experienced a noticeable network performance improvement,” says Dan Parker, Network Specialist at Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga BOCES. “Enhanced performance over the Internet was a critical goal for us. After we deployed the PowerLink device, we noticed a significant improvement in network performance. It turned out to be 100 percent better than we thought it was going to be.”

“An affordable link aggregation solution is a relatively simple ROI decision,” says Jason Breyer, vice president of sales for Ecessa. “By installing a PowerLink WAN link controller, SMEs can replace a T1 line with two DSL lines and save $7,205 per year in T1-associated costs even after fully accounting for the cost of the PowerLink. These savings for businesses translates to 60 percent overall savings for the first year and 85 percent savings for each year thereafter.”

PowerLink’s bandwidth cost savings, says Ecessa, are in addition to any savings associated with eliminating downtime for business-critical, time-sensitive applications.
