Trend Micro Inc., in association with Tech Data Corp., has launched a new usage-based licensing program, enabling them to offer scalable security solutions on a pay-as-you-use subscription basis.

"Trend Micro has developed an exciting new Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model for SMB VARs that simplifies often complex software licensing procedures and enhances reseller profits through monthly recurring revenue," said Stacy Nethercoat, vice president of software product marketing at Tech Data, based in Clearwater, Fla.

Designed to align with providers' evolving business models, the program is a win-win for resellers: They receive a Trend Micro software license with no up-front cost, users are charged monthly, and there is no license renewal fee. The renewable revenue stream for resellers is the icing on the cake.

"Through this program, our channel partners are now given a tool to establish loyal customers, create 'stickiness' with their services, and build long-term business relationships with their end-user accounts," says Chee Tan, senior director of service provider business and architect of Cupertino, Calif.- based Trend Micro's Service Provider Usagebased Licensing Program.
