N-able Buys Cloud Management Vendor Spinpanel

The deal adds automated support for Microsoft 365 and Azure Virtual Desktop to N-able’s capabilities at a time when SMBs are rapidly taking on-premises workloads online.

N-able has acquired Spinpanel, a maker of multi-tenant management software for Microsoft 365 and the Microsoft Azure public cloud.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The deal adds cloud management to N-able’s capabilities at a time when SMBs are rapidly taking on-premises workloads online. The company’s portfolio already includes two RMM solutions for administering PCs and servers, along with a range of security and data protection products.

“The ‘cloud’ is no longer a talk track in presentations; it’s an adoption speedway for IT professionals,” said John Pagliuca, N-able’s president and CEO, in a press statement. “However, while the cloud presents an enormous opportunity, it also adds to the increasing complexity of IT environments, and that coupled with labor shortages can undermine its full potential. We believe the addition of Spinpanel to our team will help our partners optimize the value of their Microsoft Cloud products and, in turn, give Spinpanel customers access to a wider array of IT management and security solutions. We are excited to welcome Spinpanel to the N-able family.”

Part of ChannelPro‘s Vendors on the Vanguard list for 2022, Spinpanel offers heavily automated tools for deploying, configuring, and managing Microsoft 365 and Azure Virtual Desktop environments. Users can assign roles, protections, and permissions to users with automated commands, and define security baseline requirements as well.

Automated license management features let MSPs buy and assign Microsoft cloud licenses at scale, create product bundles combing Microsoft services with their own, and construct customized pricing schemes. Self-serve functionality lets users delegate license purchasing and assignment privileges to their customers as well. Reporting components provide usage analytics, margin and pricing management data, and spending insights.

“We are thrilled to be joining the N-able team so we can extend the vision we’ve had for our Microsoft Cloud enablement technology and get it into the hands of an even greater pool of CSPs and IT professionals,” said Spinpanel CEO Bendert Post in prepared remarks. “There is no reason why the cloud should be out of reach, including Microsoft Cloud which dominates most of the IT world. It’s really a matter of having the ability to harness its full capabilities while centralizing the ability to manage it. We’re making that vision a reality and we know our customers will also appreciate the wider breadth and depth we will bring as N-able, together.”

N-able expects the Spinpanel platform to officially join its existing family of solutions in the third quarter of the year.

The coronavirus pandemic and associated trend toward remote work have turbocharged adoption of cloud solutions among business of all sizes. Organizations surveyed by cloud management vendor BetterCloud last year, for example, reported using an average of 110 SaaS applications each. That’s a 38% increase from the prior year, a 700% increase over 2017, and a 1,400% increase over 2015. 55 percent of participants in that study cited lack of visibility into user activity and data as their top SaaS-related challenge.

BetterCloud is one of many vendors offering born-in-the-cloud tools for addressing that need. Others include SkyKick, Nerdio, JumpCloud, and Augmentt.

N-able is now the latest leading maker of RMM solutions to enter the market as well. Last month, Kaseya previewed a forthcoming release of its VSA solution that will include support for native cloud workloads. Datto, now part of Kaseya, has been investing in cloud-related R&D since 2020 too.
