StorageCraft and Exablox Partner on BDR Appliances

MSPs can now buy scale-out storage hardware from Exablox with StorageCraft data protection software pre-installed.

StorageCraft Technology Corp. and Exablox Inc. have forged an agreement that makes the former company’s BDR solutions a pre-installed option for buyers of the latter firm’s storage hardware.

Exablox, of Sunnyvale, Calif., makes scale-out storage appliances that enable businesses faced with mounting data volumes to avoid “forklift” upgrades by adding capacity to their existing infrastructure in modular building blocks. Combining that hardware with Draper, Utah-based StorageCraft’s software results in a high-performance, cost-effective, and flexible answer to increasingly demanding data protection requirements, according to Exablox CEO Douglas Brockett.

“Customers have recognized that the gap between primary and secondary storage is disappearing,” Brockett said in a press statement. “At the same time that data volumes are growing exponentially, backup windows are shrinking dramatically, and recovery requirements are more demanding. Working together, Exablox and StorageCraft deliver a next-generation solution that addresses this reality. Now, customers can get continuous protection and immediate recovery of their business line server applications and data, combined with deduplicated secondary storage, in a single, scalable solution.”

That’s something StorageCraft partners, and especially those that serve midsize and above markets segments, have been clamoring for, according to CEO Matt Medeiros.

“StorageCraft and Exablox have seen an increase in joint customer and partner engagements resulting in success with mid-tier and enterprise customers,” Medeiros said in the press release. “This agreement allows us to formalize that relationship through product integration, marketing and support.”

The new Exablox alliance comes on the heels of StorageCraft’s recent acquisition of Madison, Wis.-based Gillware Data Recovery’s data analytics software, which helps companies optimize storage utilization by making smarter decisions about what information should or shouldn’t be backed up on a machine by machine basis. StorageCraft positions that news and today’s announcement as part of a larger strategy to help partners protect end user data more efficiently.

The new joint StorageCraft-Exablox offerings introduced today resemble the pre-integrated NAS appliance that StorageCraft and Buffalo Americas Inc., of Austin, Texas, rolled out in February. That system, named the TeraStation StorageCraft Recovery Center 25, targets smaller SMBs with up to 25 users, however.
