Addonics Technologies has introduced its Sapphire family of Write-Protect readers that treat hard drive, SSD, or flash media as read only storage to protect against virus contamination or data tampering. Two Sapphire Write-Protect readers are available — a 3.5-inch/2.5-inch HDD reader and a 2.5-inch HDD/Flash reader. Both are equipped with an interface bridge that disables the write function at the hardware level. This allows users to access data on the hard drive or flash media without the risk of accidentally erasing or altering content on the drive.
The interface bridge is a permanent feature and can’t be disabled. It protects users from accidental or intentional erasing or destruction of data. Software hacking can’t be used to circumvent the write protect function. Forensic investigators can discover if the interface bridge was tampered with and replaced with a read/write enabled board.
“Besides giving the highest level of protection, this unique Write-Protect feature is a good tool for sharing drives or flash cards containing important data among different users,” notes Addonics president, Bill Kwong.
The Sapphire Write-Protect 3.5-inch/2.5-inch HDD Drive Reader supports any 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch SATA I, II, or III hard drive. The Sapphire Write-Protect 2.5-inch HDD/Flash Reader comes bundled with a set of 2.5-inch flash drive adapters and supports read-only function on the latest flash cards, such as M2, mSATA, and CFast card.
Both models come with built-in USB 3.0/2.0 connection and a small rugged anodized aluminum enclosure. The drive can also be hot swapped like a tape cartridge without restarting the system. The Sapphire Write-Protect Readers essentially treat any hard drive or flash media as read only media, similar to CD or DVD disc.
