Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock Packs a Ton of Ports

The desktop device offers two Thunderbolt ports for daisy-chaining up to five high-speed devices.

Back in 2012, Belkin introduced the Thunderbolt Express Dock to a lot of fanfare. So what the heck happened? Well, the product had a few tweaks since then (for the better!). Now, the company has officially started shipping the product.

The Thunderbolt Express Dock is slim and sort of sexy, designed to hide all of that not-so-sexy cable clutter. Made specifically for use with Mac computers that have Thunderbolt ports, this adds two more Thunderbolt ports, so users can daisy chain up to five additional high-speed devices.

That basically means that you can access multiple devices with one cable, and it doesn’t degrade any of those signals. Also, you don’t have to constantly be plugging and unplugging, which is a nice little bonus.

Of course, this dock also means that you can take advantage of that mighty Thunderbolt technology. That way, creative types can edit films in full 1080p HD, as well as transfer volumes of data in seconds at bi-directional 10GBps channels. That’s 20 times faster than USB 2.0 and 12 times faster than FireWire 800.

The Thunderbolt Express only needs one high-speed connection to deliver up to eight other devices, including FireWire, Ethernet, USB, and up to five additional Thunderbolt devices (if you want to do the aforementioned daisy-chaining).

All of the above is nice, but just in case you need to know what you’re actually getting, know that this dock has two Thunderbolt ports, three USB 3.0 ports, one for FireWire 800, one Gigabit Ethernet connection, and separate in and out ports for 3.5mm audio.

The Thunderbolt Express Dock is shipping now with an MSRP of $299.99.
