Dot Hill Systems, a SAN storage provider, is adding VMware vStorage APIs for Array Integration (VAAI) support and Site Recovery Manager (SRM) support to its firmware for its AssuredSAN 3000 storage systems. The addition of VAAI and SRM ensures improved performance and security within VMware virtual server environments.
VAAI includes three separate capabilities – block zeroing, full copy, and hardware assisted locking. With the new firmware, the AssuredSAN 3000 supports these functions and can speed provisioning of new virtual machines, accelerate cloning, and reduce the use of CPU. SRM is VMware’s flagship data protection and disaster recovery product, integrated with array-based replication to maintain replicas of virtual machines on multiple sites. Dot Hill’s AssuredSAN 3000 Series, with built-in AssuredRemote technology, provides the critical replication element of the overall SRM product.
VMware has certified the VAAI support on Dot Hill’s AssuredSAN 3000 Series on vSphere 4.1 and 5. The SRM support is certified by VMware on vSphere 5. These features are available through a free software upgrade to the AssuredSAN array and are enabled by a free software plug-in to the VMware ESX servers.
The new firmware release will be available in the next 30 days and is free to existing Dot Hill AssuredSAN 3000 customers. VMware ready storage arrays are on exhibition at the VMware Partner Exchange in Las Vegas until February 15. For more information, visit http://www.dothill.com.
