Access and security solutions provider ZyXEL, headquartered in Anaheim, Calif., launched its VFG Series of firewall/VPN gateways exclusively for small businesses and home offices. Network separation provides an easy way to permit guests network access, while ensuring data is not unintentionally compromised. According to ZyXEL, the VFG6005 and VFG6005N provide this separation, delivering the power, protection, and features of its USG firewalls, including remote and Internet access, at an affordable price.
The VFG series’ gigabit WAN port and high throughput firewall eliminate performance bottlenecks, says ZyXEL, by providing up to 75 times the speed of typical broadband connections, thereby making the product fiber-worthy. It also features 32 enterprise-class VPN tunnels to ensure ample capacity for small businesses for a variety of applications such as network support for multiple telecommuters and connecting the main office to several branch offices.
The series has built-in support for IPSec and PPTP VPN, so companies can use either enterprise-grade IPSec VPN client software or Windows’ free, built-in VPN client. ZyXEL’s VPNC certification also helps ensure compatibility with existing VPN equipment. The wireless-N version (VFG6005N) offers dual SSIDs for separate home and business networks or a separate guest network.
The VFG series offers router features as well, with the wireless version offering 300Mbps speed. In addition, both versions have a built-in 4-port gigabit Ethernet switch. The series also features 3G auto failover for uninterrupted broadband access—a new feature for firewall gateways in this class. The 3G access is supported via a USB port. Finally, the series offers 60,000 NAT sessions and UPnP Support for cloud applications
