PROMISE Technology, a RAID storage provider, is now offering the Pegasus line, featuring Thunderbolt Technology. Thunderbolt improves speed, flexibility, and expansion for Macs. Pegasus comes in 4-bay and 6-bay configurations ranging from four to 12TB capacity, and is available through the Apple Online Store.
Pegasus allows consumers and media professionals using Final Cut Studio to store and edit video, as well as playing multiple streams of uncompressed 8 and 10-bit HD video on the Thunderbolt-enabled Macs. With Pegasus, media professionals can manipulate and edit videos, including editing multiple streams. Pegasus also provides storage space for other Apple applications, such as Aperture, iPhoto, iMovie, and is fully compatible with Time Machine.
Using Thunderbolt technology high-speed I/O, Pegasus can deliver up to 864 MB/s, 20 times faster than USB 2.0 and eight times faster than FireWire 800. Pegasus is also RoHS compliant and is ultra quiet, using an 80Plus power supply.
Pegasus is offered as a 4-bay or 6-bay RAID enclosure supporting seven RAID modes including RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, and 10. Pegasus hardware RAID solutions are available for order from the Apple Online Store (www.apple.com). MSRP for a 4-bay 4TB configuration is priced at $999, with a 6-bay 12TB priced at $1,999. Other configurations will also be available.
