CA Technologies is now offering CA ERwin Data Modeler r8, a data visualization and management tool for enterprises and SMBs through the channel.
CA ERwin Data Modeler 8 features visualization tools that help your customers represent data that is managed in multiple systems, applications, platforms, and locations.† Users also can manage the migration of data to the cloud and other new forms of IT infrastructure.
CA ERwin Data Modeler r8 includes multiple features:
- Customizable environment for visualizing data—This environment includes everything from an intuitive interface to back-end database script generation, to offer a data modeling experience based on the user’s needs.†
- Flexible personalization capabilities—Different team members can customize their workspaces, without sacrificing the ability to collaborate with others. †Reusable model formatting themes give users the flexibility of a drawing tool, with full data modeling functionality.
- Embedded integration—Integration and included licenses for SAP BusinessObjects business intelligence (BI) solutions and SAP Crystal Reports software allows for company-wide reporting.†
- Extended support for IBM DB2 for z/OS and LUW v9.x—This support eases use of partitioning, global temporary tables, compression, nicknames, column “labels,” XML data types, and query optimization syntax.
While generally developed for enterprise use, senior director of product marketing Donna Burbank praises its usage in the SMB space.
“Small businesses are focused on saving time and money, especially since they don’t have the budget to hire an expert in database platform,” Burbank says. “But they still have multiple sources of data. So one of the things we focus on in the SMB is make it easy, and all of these visibility features make it more accessible. Even if you don’t have an experienced data architect, [the product] demystifies [database management] and it takes all of the experience we have with the enterprise and makes it consumable for the SMB.”
According to Burbank, as long as your customer has massive amounts of data, the number of seats doesn’t matter.
“A lot of specialty shops that maybe do data warehousing or web design might be small in number in terms of employees, but they are really data intensive,” says Burbank. “In general, the use of ease will automate a lot of processes so that they don’t have to outsource or hire new people.”
