The Schneider company says its Symmetra PX 100 kW is aimed at providing channel pros with a scalable UPS model for SMBs positioned for growth.

For SMBs with small data centers, APC by Schneider Electric used this week’s Interop Las Vegas IT conference and expo to announce its new Symmetra PX 100 kW power protection system.† APC Intros New Power Protection System at Interop

Interop is taking place in Las Vegas this week (April 25–29) at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. APC used the forum to explain the benefits of its new Symmetra model to visiting channel pros.

The company says its Symmetra PX 100 kW product line of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units provides hot-scalable power protection, runtime, and power distribution for small and medium-sized data centers.

The PX 100 kW product is particularly suited for the channel, APC states in a press release, because it “grows with the needs of the business.”

APC’s Dave Guidette says this particular feature keeps customers from paying for energy they don’t need. “The system enables data centers to meet high density requirements and lower total cost of ownership through scalable power and runtime capabilities.”

“Before the arrival of modular power protection, users were forced to rely on either a UPS that was vastly oversized,” Guidette explains, “or on a system that was an adequate size for present business needs, but could not be easily adapted to future changes.”

The standardized, rack-based modular design of the Symmetra PX 100 kW gives businesses the ability to install power protection for immediate needs. It also provides flexibility for future expansion when IT infrastructure needs change, Guidette adds.

Users can scale power capacity in 10 kW increments up to 100 kW or 90 kW without the cost and footprint requirements of a second system. “With a compact and efficient footprint, Symmetra PX 100 kW meets the high power requirements of high-density racks,” the APC press release states.

The Symmetra PX 100 kW also aims to simplify the management of unpredictable load demand. For example, to adjust the power capacity of the system, a trained user can add or remove hot-swappable 10 kW power and battery modules without removing power to the load.

Other features of the Symmetra PX 100 kW include a hot-swappable static bypass switch, which enables the UPS to transfer the load to utility power without interruption in the event of a heavy overload or fault condition. Also included is an optional integrated maintenance bypass panel cabinet for smaller spaces and for isolating power distribution from the UPS while maintaining power to critical loads.

APC says the Symmetra PX 100kW will be available in Q2 in North America and Latin America.
