STORServer Celebrates 33rd Anniversary of OpenVMS with Archive Backup Client
Company pushes its free software trial in celebration of the event.
It was 33 years ago that STORServer first made available its OpenVMS with Archive Backup Client (ABC). The company is celebrating the anniversary by making a marketing push of its free software trial. The trial is available on the company’s Web site.
STORServer’s ABC for OpenVMS enables resellers to include OpenVMS servers in their customer’s heterogeneous IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) backup solution. In turn, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager policy management enables users to define how many older copies of files to keep and how long to keep them. These granular policies can be applied to individual files, directories, volumes and entire servers.†
STORServer’s Archive Backup Client provides data protection for OpenVMS on Itanium, Alpha, and VAX systems. System a
dministrators can create backup schedules and restore individual files, directories, and disks. ABC commands are designed to drop into an existing OpenVMS backup environment with minimal modification.
“If you have IBM Tivoli Storage Manager and OpenVMS, there is no reason you shouldn’t be using the ABC software to backup your environment,” says Steve Jensen, vice president of engineering at STORServer.
Archive Backup Client users can be confident in the security of their data as the software employs transaction semantics during all data transfers and performs thorough checks to ensure backup and archive copies mirror their online sources. In addition, ABC provides extensive logging capabilities that enable tracing of all operations and extends the OpenVMS security model to the files stored on the IBM TSM server.
