Axcient Adds ServerAlive to Backup & Recovery Platform
Company says new product enables MSPs to “launch a virtual instance of a customer’s failed server on the Axcient local appliance in a matter of minutes.”
Axcient Inc., provider of the Axcient data protection platform, has released its ServerAlive product.

According to Axcient, ServerAlive enables MSPs and IT administrators to “launch a virtual instance of a customer’s failed server on the Axcient local appliance in a matte
r of minutes.” The goal is to reduce the downtime associated with physical or virtual server failure, the company adds. ServerAlive addresses this, says Axcient, via its ability to be activated remotely through a Web browser.
In addition, when new hardware is added, the ServerAlive instance can be migrated back to the new physical hardware or a new virtual environment quickly. ServerAlive also extends RapidRestore, which provides local, agentless backup and restore of machines and applications, including granular backup and restore of individual emails and mailboxes on Microsoft Exchange. Bundled into all service offerings is SmartCloudDR the automated, scheduled backup of a customer’s critical data to Axcient’s remote SAS 70 II data centers.
All three feature sets are integrated and delivered as a monthly service on Axcient’s hybrid-cloud platform, which combines a local appliance with Axcient’s cloud infrastructure.

The ServerAlive business continuity set of features includes ServerAlive Recovery and ServerAlive BMR coupled with new chipsets to maximize the performance of a server restore to the Axcient appliance.
Axcient says its new ServerAlive product enables channel pros to:
- Take complete disk images of Windows 2003 and 2008 servers for restoral on disparate hardware
- Launch a virtualized instance of a server on the Axcient appliance if the original protected server goes down
- Provide Microsoft Exchange brick-level restore down to a mailbox, single email, calendar, or contact
- Offer laptop backup “on connection” when a laptop is not connected to the network for the scheduled backup
The ServerAlive option on the Axcient appliance is now available in North America. Axcient provides three simple, bundled service plans across five different sized appliances to its managed service provider partners depending on the customer’s needs. Axcient partner plans start at $119 per month.
