The ChannelPro Network Announces Its Annual Peer of the Year Award

ChannelPro editors select Corey Kirkendoll, president and CEO of 5K Technical Services in Texas, as the winner of the yearly honor for MSPs and VARs who have shared especially powerful peer-to-peer business advice.

The ChannelPro Network has named Corey Kirkendoll, president and CEO of 5K Technical Services, in Plano, Texas, as the winner of its Peer of the Year award, launched last year to recognize channel pros who have shared especially powerful peer-to-peer business advice.

Each month during the calendar year, ChannelPro invites a successful MSP, value-added reseller, or solution provider to share his or her story in the Peer to Peer feature that runs in the digital and print issues of ChannelPro-SMB magazine. The column provides actionable advice on topics such as growing a business, improving operations and service delivery, developing new lines of business, hiring and retention, building sales and marketing strategies, and creating and nurturing corporate culture.

All 12 stories in 2020, along with additional nominations received from the ChannelPro Network audience of readers and vendors, were considered for the award by the publication’s editors, who selected the one they believe readers could learn the most from and immediately apply to their own business. Kirkendoll’s story details how 5K developed Internet of Things expertise to help its clients save time and gain efficiencies while positioning them—and 5K itself—for the future.

src=“Corey’s story in our February 2020 issue illustrates how managed service providers can add emerging tech like IoT to their portfolio to both advance their customers’ strategic goals and open up new revenue opportunities,” says Rich Freeman, executive editor of The ChannelPro Network. “IoT is greenfield for the channel and Corey provided specific insights on how he is forging vendor partnerships in that space to grow his business and expertise, as well as address ongoing challenges such as security.”

Kirkendoll, who founded 5K Technical Services in 2006, has 25-plus years’ experience in the IT industry and is a recognized visionary serving SMBs in the North Texas area. His experience prior to 5K includes product and technical lead positions at VCE (now owned by Dell EMC), Cisco, and Linksys. Corey has also been an active participant in the IT community and currently chairs CompTIA’s Managed Services Executive Council, of which he has been an active member since 2016. He is also a board member and past chair of the Collin County Black Chamber of Commerce. His awards include the 2018 Reginal Gates Business Achievement “The Best of the Best” along with being a Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Scholar.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized by my peers in the MSP industry,” Kirkendoll says. “It has been an awesome 15 years and I look forward to many more to come.”

5K Technical Services is an award-winning IT service company serving businesses and churches in Plano, Richardson, McKinney, Frisco, and surrounding communities with a suite of managed IT services, including managed security, IT infrastructure, cloud hosting services, VoIP, and IT project management. 5K is a Microsoft-certified MSP, a certified HUB with the State of Texas, a member of the Church Network, a participant in the SBA Emerging Leaders Initiative, and holds the CompTIA Managed Services trustmark. Awards include the CRN Tech Elite 250, CRN MSP 500, CRN Next Gen 250, and MSP 501.

“The ChannelPro Network is honored that Corey chose to share his story with our readers, offering them a how-to guide to getting in on an immense and growing market opportunity,” says Michael Siggins, president and publisher of The ChannelPro Network. “The competition was fierce, as all of the candidates were compelling sources of insight and inspiration for our readers. Therefore, we are pleased to present Corey with our second annual Peer of the Year award.”

ChannelPro is currently accepting nominations for the 2021 Peer of the Year here. All nominated candidates will be considered along with the subjects of our 12 Peer to Peer stories featured throughout the year in ChannelPro-SMB magazine. For questions, contact peer2peer@channelpronetwork.com.
