Astute Networks Unveils the ViSX G3

The ViSX G3 is a networked performance Flash solution for VMware cloud computing and virtualization.

Network and flash-based technologies innovator Astute Networks has announced the introduction of the ViSX G3, a solution for VMware-based virtualization environments.

The ViSX G3 is a networked performance Flash solution for VMware cloud computing and virtualization. It is designed to enable faster, more widespread adoption of cloud computing and server and desktop virtualization by delivering performance-optimized flash memory to virtual Astute Networks Unveils the ViSX G3machines over standard local area networks.

The new offering features Astute’s Networked Performance Flash architecture and patented DataPump Engine technology, adding 80,000 sustained random IOPS performance to an existing virtualized infrastructure.

“According to industry statistics, 10 percent of data centers have virtualized their applications and most have only virtualized non-essential applications primarily because of the virtual stall problem,” states Astute Networks in a press release submitted to Channel Pro-SMB. “Databases, desktops, and cloud computing environments generate more network and storage I/O than virtual environments can provide. As a result, virtualized storage is too slow to support SAP, Oracle, and SQL databases; virtual machine performance is inadequate to meet Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint service levels agreements (SLAs); and backing up or recovering virtualized data stores is unacceptably slow.”

Now, says the company, ViSX G3 product combines enterprise flash memory and the Astute Networks patented DataPump Engine processor technology, custom hardware, and software to deliver accelerated network traffic (TCP/IP), virtualized data store traffic (iSCSI), flash performance, and RAID protection.

“We believe the ViSX G3 product is a revolutionary solution that makes virtualization feasible and cost-efficient for use throughout the data center for the first time,” explains Astute Networks president and CEO Steve Topper.

Topper says SAN flash products restrict flash performance, and internal PCI and external direct attached storage (DAS) flash products lock flash to a single server, restricting virtualization. “In contrast,” he says, “the ViSX G3 product is a simple VMware-compatible solutions that, thanks to its Networked Performance Flash architecture, simply plugs into an existing environment and lets IT managers add performance to a virtual environment where they need it.”

The ViSX G3 supports 64 virtualization host servers and their virtual machines. It is also VMware Ready Certified.

There three models of the ViSX G3 solutions available now:

  • ViSX G3 1200 for $29,000
  • ViSX G3 2400 for $59,000
  • ViSX G3 4800 for 94,000

Complete solutions under $30,000, with each ViSX G3 supporting 64 host servers. The complete solutions include warranty, expert support, and on-site service.

The ViSX G3 starts at under $500 per host server and less than $100 per virtual machine.
