NAG Releases Fortran Builder 5.2
The latest version of the Numerical Algorithms Group compiler implements the latest Fortran 2003 standards with an integrated development environment.
The Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG) released the latest version its checking compiler, Fortran Builder.
Scientists and engineers doing nanoscale modeling will find Fortran Builder 5.2 features a virtually complete implementation of the latest Fortran 2003 standard and an integrated development environment.
Malcolm Cohen is a NAG principal technical consultant and editor of the ISO/IEC Fortran Standard. He says Fortran should rely on multiple compilers. Relying on a single compiler, he says, “may be set to sacrifice accuracy, standards-conformance, and portability in exchange for speed.”
For that reason, Cohen says he believes NAG’s Fortran Builder is “probably the best checking compiler available.” It is exact in its interpretation of Fortran standards, he says, and incorporates run-time checking features like procedure interface checking, undefined variable trapping, memory leak detection, and more.
“Many report that their use of NAG Fortran Builder for maintaining standards, debugging, and verification of their Fortran programs is invaluable,” Cohen touts.
NAG Fortran Builder is designed for the Microsoft Windows environment, and it provides a Fortran-aware editor, build system, GUI debugger, and help system for Fortran. The NAG Fortran Compiler is also available for other platforms.
