Covad Communications and CENX Strike Deal
Ethernet services from Covad will now be available through CENX’s worldwide carrier Ethernet exchange. The first interconnection is taking place at CENX’s Los Angeles exchange.
Voice and data communications provider Covad Communications is now offering its Ethernet services through CENX, operator of a worldwide carrier Ethernet exchange.
Covad offers a portfolio of Ethernet services servicing 10 million businesses in 240 metropolitan areas. Connecting with CENX will broaden the company’s wholesale distribution channel.
CENX Inc. is a carrier Ethernet exchange provider that delivers carrier-neutral, location-neutral carrier Ethernet exchange services to global telecom/internet service providers.
Covad Carrier Services vice president Jeff Brown says the CENX will also make it easier for Covad customers to purchase and sell Covad services. “Key factors in our decision to work with CENX were their expertise, ability to provide contiguous support for QoS applications, and their integrated business and technical services,” Brown adds.
The first interconnection is taking place at CENX’s Los Angeles exchange. It will provide carriers access to Covad’s Ethernet over Copper services, which the company says provides “economical last-mile broadband access at speeds ranging from 3 Mbps to 20 Mbps.”
Covad and CENX anticipate adding more exchange locations nationwide to further broaden carrier access to the Covad footprint.
“Covad is an important connection for CENX and our membership,” explains CENX CEO Nan Chen. “It enables significant revenue and cost-savings opportunities for both Covad and all of our carrier Ethernet exchange members.”
