Adtran Broadens its Carrier Ethernet Router Line

Company seeks to provide the channel with “a diverse range of deployment needs, ranging to 750 Mbps of Carrier Ethernet for worldwide deployment.”

Adtran Inc., a supplier of networking and converged services solutions, has enhanced its portfolio of Carrier Ethernet solutions, adding three new high-performance, multiservice modular routers that support a services-enabled sustained throughput of up to 250 Mbps.†Adtran's NetVanta 3450

The NetVanta 3450, 3458, and 4430 routers join Adtran’s Carrier Ethernet portfolio. The company say it aims for its line to meet “a diverse range of deployment needs, ranging to 750 Mbps of Carrier Ethernet for worldwide deployment.”

The Adtran Carrier Ethernet product suite includes the NetVanta 3400 and 4400 series of modular, multiservice access routers as well as the NetVanta 800 Series of Ethernet access devices. These solutions are complemented by a full line of Ethernet switches. “When combined with Adtran’s Total Access 5000 Multi-Service Access Platform [MSAP],” states Adtran in a recent press release, “this solution set offers Ethernet services for a complete end-to-end solution.”

NetVanta 3400 Series performance-enhanced routers include the NetVanta 3430, 3448, 3450, and 3458. The NetVanta 3430 and NetVanta 3448 are single-slot, modular, multi-service solutions supporting up to 30 Mbps of Carrier Ethernet.

The NetVanta 3450 and 3458 are the newest additions to the NetVanta router family. These dual-slot performance-enhanced platforms provide support for multiple T1s or E1s of bandwidth and 45 Mbps of Carrier Ethernet. The NetVanta 3448 and NetVanta 3458 add the benefit of an integral eight-port Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch.

All of these platforms deliver high packet throughput, making them ideal for IP telephony, corporate connectivity, and Internet access. These solutions are also perfect for mid-size businesses, transitioning to voice over IP (VoIP) or deploying 3G services for disaster recovery.

The NetVanta 4430 simplifies deployment for higher bandwidth Carrier Ethernet services with support for up to 750 Mbps.

NetVanta 3400 and 4400 Series platforms provide a broad range of innovative features, including:

  • SLA support through end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS), providing the ability to prioritize voice and video traffic utilizing Hierarchal QoS, traffic shaping, and bandwidth allocation
  • SLA and network health measurement via inherent Network Quality Monitoring
  • Advanced VoIP monitoring and troubleshooting via Voice Quality Monitoring
  • Simplified service deployments, with circuit diagnostics via connectivity-fault management and operations and maintenance functionality
  • Enhanced security with firewall and VPN support
  • Auto-configuration and auto-install
  • The ability to be combined with such products such as Adtran’s Ethernet switches, enabling Gigabit-to-the-desktop, Wi-Fi, and VoIP deployments.

These platforms are complemented by the NetVanta 800 Series of Ethernet access devices, which are used for Ethernet in the First Mile. These solutions work in conjunction withDSLAMs or multi-service access and aggregation platforms–like Adtran’s own TotalAccess 3000 and Total Access 5000–to deliver enhanced data rate capabilities via a varietyof technologies, including e.SHDSL, DS3, or TDM.

The features of the NetVanta 800 Series include:

  • EFM-bonded, cost-effective NTUs designed for voice and data service deployments
  • Support for up to eight two-wire SHDSL loops, eight four-wire T1/E1 loops, or three DS3s
  • MEF compliance
  • Support of up to Gigabit Ethernet
