Tandberg Data Ships DAT 320 Drives
The read- and write-compatible drive delivers backup speeds of up to 86 GB per hour, with 2-to-1 data compression.
Tandberg Data, a supplier of data protection solutions, has announced the general availability of its DAT 320 tape drives and media products.†
Tandberg claims its Data DAT 320 will deliver backup speeds of up to 86 GB per hour with 2:1 data compression. That would enable it to store a full 320 GB of data on a single cartridge in less than four hours.
The DAT 320 will be read- and write-compatible, with DAT 160 tape media providing an upgrade path for existing customers.†
The DAT 320 drive is designed to consume fewer watts per GB than previous generations of DAT drives. It consumes 6.1 watts during normal operation and has the lowest power consumption of any tape drive in the market.
Tandberg Data DAT tape drives are available in a choice of capacities (72 GB, 160 GB, or 320 GB), with a selection of different configurations (internal, external, or rackmount).
In addition to the popular interfaces supported by DAT 72 and DAT 160 (SCSI or USB), the DAT 320 drive will support a SAS or USB interface. The flexibility and choice helps DAT drives to be integrated into most any customer environment.
Tandberg Data also sells DAT media, and its data and cleaning cartridges are backed by a limited lifetime warranty.
The DAT 320 drives are available through Tandberg Data’s established channel of distributor and reseller partners. The drive starts at an estimated street price of $899, which includes a three-year warranty and one-year advanced replacement service.
