Ivanti Reinforces Commitment to Customer Security with Appointment of Daniel Spicer as New Vice President of Security

Spicer joins Ivanti following security leadership roles at Stroz Friedberg, The University of Texas, and The United Space Alliance

Ivanti, the automation platform that discovers, manages, secures, and services IT assets from cloud to edge, today announced the appointment of Daniel Spicer as the company’s new vice president of security. This reinforces Ivanti’s commitment to protecting its customers and raising the bar for security as threat actors continue to grow in sophistication.

Spicer will help enhance the company’s overall cybersecurity infrastructure by working with engineering teams to build stronger security into Ivanti’s solutions, assessing future acquisitions for security strength and market differentiation, and ensuring Ivanti’s network security is bolstered to protect its own systems and data.

With extensive experience in incident response and threat hunting, Spicer brings with him a distinguished skillset to expand Ivanti’s security strategy. Spicer joins Ivanti from Stroz Friedberg, a recognized industry leader in the field of incident response and digital forensics that has helped shape best practices in digital investigations and risk management. He has led over 100 investigations and created solution response strategies to close vulnerabilities. He has worked on some of the largest and highest profile security incidents, such as the Yahoo! breach and espionage campaigns launched by nation states including Operation Cloud Hopper.

Prior to Stroz Friedberg, Spicer served as a senior security analyst at The University of Texas at Arlington, where he implemented an incident response and forensics program and led investigations. He also led vulnerability management, performing internal and external vulnerability scanning. Additionally, he performed code review and assisted developers with remediating vulnerabilities and implementing best practices. Before that, he held several security positions at the United Space Alliance, where he developed and maintained security plans for its mission-critical shuttle operations system in support of NASA.

“At Ivanti, our number one priority is protecting our customers,” said Jeff Abbott, president of Ivanti. “We’re making significant investments to enhance our overall cybersecurity posture to ensure our customers are working in the most secure computing environment as threats evolve and emerge. As part of this, we’re excited to welcome Daniel to the team. He has a proven track record of success with building trusted relationships and protecting customers. And we will continue to bolster our headcount to create an even larger and more sophisticated security team.”

“I’m excited to join Ivanti,” said Spicer. “There have been major shifts in the security landscape over the past year. Working with Ivanti recently as a security consultant gave me a firsthand view of the company’s commitment to quick, aggressive, and transparent response to vulnerability challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic and rapid shift to remote work created the perfect storm for sophisticated threat actors to target vulnerabilities in solutions being used by a newly decentralized workforce. As organizations and government agencies face ever more sophisticated attacks against their technologies, Ivanti is fully dedicated to bolstering our security capabilities, protecting our customers, and mitigating threats as quickly as possible.”
