D-Link Releases New, Battery-Powered Wi-Fi Water Sensor (DCH-S161) That Works With Google Assistant

As one of the first Google Assistant-compatible water sensors, people can now use a simple voice command to check for leaks

D-Link announced its new DCH-S161 Wi-Fi Water Sensor—one of the first to work with Google Assistant. The sensor, an updated version of the DCH-S160, runs off batteries and provides voice control compatibility to help alert people about leaks in their home.

“Water damage is one of the most expensive insurance claims for homeowners, but they can also be the easiest to detect early,” said†Rayan Fakhro, senior product line manager at D-Link Systems, Inc. “With this updated model, people can place the sensor where they need it, receive updates on their phone or check for leaks using their voice, and help keep a small problem from becoming a disaster.”

The sensor, which is located at the end of a nearly six-foot long cable, will send a notification through the mydlink app to a person’s phone any time it detects a leak. Once paired with Google Assistant compatible devices, people can ask Google to check for leaks in specific rooms and locations around their home. Shortly after its release, the sensor will also be able to send voice alerts through a Google Hub to proactively alert people when it detects a leak.

Along with the app notifications and future voice alerts, the water sensor includes a 90-decibel siren and an LED that notify owners of leaks—even if there’s no Wi-Fi signal.

Availability
The DCH-S161 Wi-Fi Water Sensor is now available for†$49.99.
