Paragon Protect & Restore (PPR), a backup and disaster recovery solution from Irvine, Calif.-based Paragon Software Group, has outperformed BDR alternatives in benchmark analyses conducted by openBench Labs, an independent IT industry source that provides evaluation and certification of IT products and services, Paragon reports.
Just released by openBench and now available as a complimentary download on the Paragon website, the two-part analysis shows that PPR ranked highest in the areas of storage and resource utilization, deduplication, and support for Microsoft Exchange and complex virtual server environments.†
openBench’s conclusions indicate that PPR utilizes a fraction of the storage of competing solutions, with agentless backup of an average SQL Server virtual machine (VM) only consuming 10 percent of the storage used by BDR alternatives when deduplication is employed. Without a SQL Server agent, PPR created the smallest full-backup image of all BDR solutions tested using deduplication. And without deduplication, agentless PPR incremental backups were 12 percent of the size of another BDR vendor’s incremental image, while agentless, full-VM backups were 63.5 percent smaller.
