Data storage and backup media company Maxell Corp. of America has announced the certification of its LTO Ultrium 6 (LTO 6) data cartridge.
“Maxell recently completed the LTO Ultrium 6 data cartridge compliance verification process, including a series of tests to confirm interchange compatibility with other drives and media,” states a Maxell Corp. press release submitted to ChannelPro-SMB. “Users of Maxell LTO Ultrium products can be assured compatibility and interchangeability between Maxell LTO Ultrium media and all brands of Ultrium drives and media.”
LTO 6 features Write Once, Read Many (WORM) functionality and advanced encryption capabilities, making it well suited for backup and archival applications requiring high security, including such vertical markets as legal, medical, and financial SMBs complying with the Sarbanes–Oxley Act.
The data cartridge also incorporates a Linear Tape File System, which enables it to be used in a manner similar to that of hard disk drives. It also boasts faster compressed tape drive transfer rate of up to 400 MB/sec and maximum storage capacity of up to 6.25 TB.
The incorporation of Maxell’s NeoSMART (Super Maximum-capacity Advanced Reliability Tape) technology is designed to enhance the benefits of LTO 6. For example, ultra-fine ceramic-armored metal particles augment the LTO 6 capacity and create an added level of protection from corrosion.
In addition, Maxell has developed dispersion and calendaring processes designed to improve read/write performance and ensure high output and enhanced stability.
