Datto, a backup and disaster recovery provider, is now offering GenISIS, which permanently upgrades existing backup and disaster recovery (BDR) hardware to Datto SIRIS appliances. MSPs, VARs, and other IT solution providers can leverage existing hardware investments while also taking advantage of Datto’s ShadowSnap agent and Inverse Chain Technology featured in SIRIS appliances.
SIRIS appliances upgraded by GenISIS operate identically to the Datto-sold devices, enabling users to have all features and capabilities at their fingertips. To upgrade an appliance, the Datto partner simply attaches Datto’s proprietary USB stick into the desired hardware, inserts the boot CD, and reboots the system. The system will boot off the stick and onscreen instructions will help the user configure the RAID and complete the upgrade. After the stick is removed, the system will function as a new Datto SIRIS appliance.
The purchase of a single GenISIS Upgrade Kit can be used to repurpose an unlimited number of BDR appliances, though a separate license code will be required for each conversion. To start, Datto will be converting Zenith BDRs that meet minimum hardware requirements.
