Networking solutions provider ADTRAN Inc. has announced an upgrade to NetVanta 3430 and NetVanta 6000 series as well as Total Access 900e IP Business Gateways. These products have been equipped with Session Border Control (SBC) software functionality.
The software enhancement was developed, according to ADTRAN, to “address service providers’ need for a new demarcation device to handle normalization, security, and monitoring for their SIP trunking services.”
Managed voice services provide SMBs with flexible, low-cost, secure means for connecting unified communications solutions. The new SBC software, combined with Total Access 900e IP Business Gateways, is designed to enable a migration path for VARs to provide their SMB clients.
Used at the customer premise to as a means of providing interworking and interoperability between the VoIP network and the IP PBX, the NetVanta and Total Access devices with SBC features are designed to handle NAT/firewall traversal, VoIP protocol interworking, transcoding, and media anchoring. Integrating with a wide variety of IP PBX vendors’ SIP trunking implementation, the solutions also provide a clear point of demarcation that enables providers to gather valuable metrics and perform tests as well as implement network disaster recovery, security, and failover polices without having to modify a customer-owned IP PBX.
“The Session Border Control functionality is a natural extension of ADTRAN’s IP Business Gateway and Access Router product lines,” says Chris Thompson, ADTRAN’s senior product manager. “It will enable our partners to quickly and easily grow their SIP trunking business without having to purchase additional hardware.” He adds, “With this key technology in place, service providers will be able to connect a wide variety of premise-based communications solutions to their networks using native SIP trunking with increased confidence for interoperability.”
