An integrated version of Veeam’s Backup & Replication software in the ExaGrip appliance enables SMBs to instantly run a VM directly from the appliance when the primary VM is unavailable.
Veeam Software is a developer of VMware data protection, disaster recovery, and VMware management solutions for virtual data center environments. ExaGrid Systems Inc. provides scalable risk-based backup solutions with data deduplication. The two companies have joined forces to improve the recoverability of virtual machines (VMs).
The new, integrated solution pairs Veeam Software‘s Backup & Replication with ExaGrid’s landing zone architecture to provide fast backups and efficient data storage and retrieval. It designed to enable SMBs to instantly recover and run a VM directly from the ExaGrid appliance when the primary VM is unavailable.
The ExaGrid landing zone, a high-speed cache on the ExaGrid appliance, maintains the most recent Veeam backups in their original formats. This technology and architecture, operating in tandem with Veeam Backup & Replication, means users can instantly recover and run an entire VM directly from ExaGrid’s disk-based backup system should the primary VM be unavailable.
According to Veeam, this means that while most other deduplication products “only retain a deduplicated copy, often resulting in limited functionality,” ExaGrid’s architecture enables customers to fully leverage Veeam Backup & Replication’s Instant VM Recovery feature.

ExaGrid executives add that SMBs’ need to back up and protect virtualized applications is paramount. “The ExaGrid disk backup with deduplication appliances provides a reliable, highly scalable and economical disk-based backup solution for Veeam Backup & Replication,” says ExaGrid’s Marc Crespi. “This allows customers to achieve high availability of their virtualized environments, as well as recovery times measured in minutes, not hours.”
