Infortrend Announces Availability of EonStor DS SAS Series
Calling the technology “the latest in SAS drive connectivity,” Infortrend made the announcement at SNW in Orlando.
Infortrend made news at this year’s Spring Storage Networking World, announcing availability of its new EonStor DS 8 Gb/s FC to 6 Gb/s SAS series.
Storage management professionals throughout the channel are gathered at Storage Networking World (SNW) in Orlando, Fla., this week. There, Infortrend is touting its EonStor DS product family as “the latest in SAS drive connectivity.”
Introduced earlier this year, the first EonStor DS models come with host connectivity choices of 8 Gb/s Fibre Channel (FC), 4 Gb/s FC, and 1 GbE iSCSI. Flexible drive options of 3 Gb/s SAS or SATA are also available.
Powered by Infortrend’s latest RAID engine, the EonStor DS models deliver throughput designed to “significantly improve SAN application productivity and offer superior price-performance,” the company states in a press release to EH Publishing.
The addition of the new 8 Gb/s FC to 6 Gb/s SAS series, the company says, offers users more drive options and expands the product family to include the latest SAS protocol standard.
With hard disk drive vendors no longer shipping 3 Gb/s SAS drives, 6 Gb/s SAS drives are quickly becoming the new standard. By integrating the latest SAS technology, Infortrend hopes to provide users with the ability to optimize transfer rates to support today’s extremely bandwidth-hungry applications, including server virtualization, backup, and video streaming.
In addition to better performance, the technology also aims to provide faster and more accurate troubleshooting as well as faster system initialization and change detection.
The EonStor DS is backward compatible, meaning that current 3 Gb/s SAS investments will be preserved.
Infortrend vice president of global marketing James Hsieh says it was a company goal to be “one of the first to announce external disk systems supporting 6 Gb/s SAS drives.”
“The new series provides SMB users with affordable storage solutions for high-availability environments,” Hsieh says. “Moreover, the latest member of the EonStor DS family enables enhanced application productivity and management efficiency.”
During SNW, Infortrend is showcasing its ESVA, EonNAS, and EonStor DS product family lines.
