CompTIA Announces its Breakaway Conference Keynote

CompTIA announces its Breakaway Conference Keynote

U.S. Representative Darrell Issa to address attendees.

CompTIA, a major trade association for the information technology industry (IT), has announced that U.S. Representative Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) will deliver a keynote address at its 2009†Breakaway Conference.

The Breakaway Confrence is a significant event within the North American IT channel. It will be held Aug. 3 through Aug. at the Mirage Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.

Issa is scheduled to deliver his remarks at the Breakaway awards dinner, planned for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5. He will be joined by Larry Irving, president of Irving Information Group and co-chair of the Internet Innovation Alliance.

First elected to Congress in 2000, Issa is a ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. He also serves on the House Judiciary Committee. Issa represents the 49th Congressional District, which includes portions of northern San Diego County-surrounding his hometown of Vista-as well as parts of southern Riverside County.

CompTIA vice president of events and conferences Kelly Ricker expects a “lively discussion” from Issa and Irving “on the current political trends and policy issues affecting the industry.”

Issa, for his part, founded Directed Electronics prior to being elected to Congress. Directed Electronics is a manufacturer of automobile security and convenience products.

Irving served as assistant secretary of commerce for communications and information as well as administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration for for almost seven years. He also served as a principal advisor to the President of the United States and Secretary of Commerce on domestic and international telecommunications and information technology issues.

Each year, CompTIA attracts executives from throughout the IT world with its Breakaway event as well as the business and channel partners those executives rely upon to bring products and services to market. †The conference provides a setting for exhibitors and attendees to gain education, analyze industry trends and network with other IT professionals.

This year’s conference also features the CompTIA Educational Foundation’s Third Annual Creating Futures Charity Golf Classic on Aug. 3 at the Rio Secco Golf Club in Las Vegas. Proceeds from the charity event will benefit the Creating Futures program, which provides training and certification opportunities to populations who have historically been under-represented in the IT workforce, including U.S. veterans, individuals with disabilities, women, minorities, at-risk youth and dislocated workers.
