Nerdio for Azure Introduces Load-Based Autoscaling for RDS Collections

Dynamic server scaling increases cost savings and reliability of virtual machines for MSPs and their end customers

Nerdio,†a pioneer in cloud IT automation and creator of Nerdio for Azure, announced an easy new way to create, manage, and automatically scale RDS server collections. This point-and-click features makes it easy for organizations to maximize both cost savings and reliability of Windows virtual machines.

RDS servers deliver virtual desktops and applications to end users, and typically each user is assigned to a single server. If the server gets overloaded or goes down during periods of high demand, its impact on the end user experience and productivity is business critical. Organizations may purchase additional servers to avoid this, but this means they pay for additional resources they aren’t necessarily using at all times, such as after business hours or on weekends.

Nerdio for Azure addresses this problem by automating the scale out and scale in of server resources based on actual usage and demand.

“Load-based autoscaling is a public cloud staple — it’s one of those features that demonstrates the true value of the cloud. Being able to grow or shrink resources in response to demand in realtime has traditionally been limited to state-less connections, and dynamically scaling Azure virtual machines out or in with such ease and simplicity was not possible until now,” said Vadim Vladimirskiy, CEO of Nerdio. “RDS is deeply integrated into the operating system, active directory, and the user desktops. Nerdio has created the necessary functionality to be able to autoscale RDS as if it was a web app, from an extremely simple user interface.”

“Without this new feature, creating and managing autoscaling RDS server collections is an incredibly tedious and complex manual process. The MSP would either have to be very technically adept, or hire expensive technical expertise to accomplish this. We’re thrilled to make yet another long and arduous process as painless as point-and-click.”

Nerdio for Azure allows the MSP (or IT administrator) to determine key thresholds for server autoscaling. For instance, a new server may be added when the CPU usage reaches a certain percentage for a minimum period of time — such as 70% for 10 minutes. The additional servers can then automatically scale in at another threshold, and even follow set parameters for time of day — such as after business hours.

Nerdio for Azure is the on-ramp to the Microsoft Azure superhighway, delivering IT automation for ridiculously easy packaging, pricing, provisioning, management, and optimization of hybrid and complete IT environments in the Microsoft Cloud. Nerdio’s centralized admin portal provides a single, unified management interface, and allows even non-engineers to handle the majority of tasks in just three clicks or less, dramatically increasing efficiency. This includes provisioning an entire IT environment within just two hours.

Nerdio for Azure is on public cloud and is available on a per-user, per-month basis.
