D-Link Launches Multiple Scalable Switch Series

Available through the channel, the switches include IPv6 capabilities to future-proof networks.

D-Link, a unified networking provider for SMBs, has added to its series of scalable switching products. The D-Link DGS-6604 chassis-based switch, DGS-3620 and DGS-3120 xStack series delivers 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) aggregation, and Power Over Ethernet (PoE) support. The new switches include IPv6 capabilities to future-proof networks, high availability for mission-critical applications, and enhanced security. Ideal for SMB customers, the switches are available through D-Link channel partners.

The DGS-6604 chassis-based switch is ideal for environments that require high availability of network applications. Based on a high-speed switch fabric with capacity of up to 576 Gbps and system performance of up to 428 MBps, the features include:

  • Superior Performance: Bottleneck-free distributed packet switching/routing; intelligent line cards with on-board Level 2 (L2)/Level 3 (L3)/Level 4 (L4) switching controllers
  • Flexible Modular Design: Four-slot chassis; scalable expansion to 144 10/100/1000BASE-T, 144 PoE, 144 small form-factor pluggable (SFP), or 24 10GE ports
  • High Resiliency: Up to four redundant load-sharing power modules; hot swappable line cards; replaceable fan module; 802.1D/w/s spanning tree; 802.3ad link aggregation; virtual router redundancy protocol (VRRP) support
  • Quality of Service (QoS): 802.1p priority queues/multi-layer class of service (CoS) including flow-based bandwidth control and broadcast/multicast storm control to ensure priority to network services such as VoIP, video conferencing, IPTV, and IP surveillance
  • Security: L2/L3/L4 Multi-Layer Access Control List (ACL); external RADIUS authentication support; SSH support

The DGS-3620 xStack series is an alternative to the chassis-based switch and delivers next generation Layer 3 features. Up to four dual-purpose uplink/stacking 10GE SFP ports can be aggregated to allow a maximum 40 Gbps backbone bandwidth. The DGS-3620 series also supports physical and virtual stacking with other D-Link switches, and provide IPv6 support, QoS, and Multi-Layer ACL filtering, packet routing, and protocol filtering/inspection. Other features include:

  • Flexibility Configuration: Offers 24 or 48 10/100/1000Mbps; four 10GB SFP uplinks; SI or EI software options; 802.3af and 802.3at PoE support
  • High Bandwidth Physical/Virtual Stacking: Four dedicated stacking ports per switch; up to 40 Gbps full-duplex stacking bandwidth; up to 12 units (576Gbps) per stack; virtual stacking of up to 32 units
  • Increased Reliability: Redundant Power Supply (RPS) support; 802.1D/w/s spanning tree, Loopback Detection (LBD)
  • Advanced Security: Multi-Layer ACL; IP-MAC-Port Binding (IMPB); D-Link Safeguard Engine; DHCP server screening; BPDU Attack Protection, ARP spoofing prevention

The DGS-3120 xStack series are enhanced Layer 2 stackable switches that deliver PoE support, as well as both Standard Image (SI) and Enhanced Image (EI) software platforms. The SI includes advanced QoS, traffic shaping, and L2 multicasting, while the EI supports Ethernet Ring Protection Switching (ERPS), double VLAN, Ethernet OAM, and IPv6. Other features include:

  • Flexibility Configuration: Offers 24 or 48 10/100/1000Mbps; 4G copper/SFP uplinks; SI or EI software options; 802.3af and 802.3at PoE support
  • High Bandwidth Physical/Virtual Stacking: Two dedicated stacking ports per switch; up to 40 Gbps full-duplex stacking bandwidth; up to six units (288GB ports) per stack; virtual stacking of up to 32 units
  • Increased Reliability: Redundant Power Supply (RPS) support; 802.1D/w/s spanning tree, Loopback Detection (LBD)
  • Advanced Security: Multi-Layer ACL; IP-MAC-Port Binding (IMPB); D-Link Safeguard Engine; DHCP server screening; BPDU Attack Protection, ARP spoofing prevention

The new network switches will be available according to the following schedule:

  • The DGS-3120 Series is available in June 2011 with models supporting PoE. Models currently available start at $949.99.
  • The DGS-3620 Series will be available in early Q3, starting at $2,699.99.
  • The DGS-6604 chassis switch will be available in August 2011, and pricing will be named at that time.

All switches are sold through D-Link’s channel partners and distributors.
