WD Gets into Rack-Mount Storage with Sentinel RX4100

Western Digital is really well known for its hard drives and media players. However, the company is looking to expand that product portfolio just a bit. Say hello to the WD Sentinel RX4100, the company's first 1U rack-mount small business storage server.

You have enough things to worry about during the day. Losing all of your company's important info should not be one of those things. Designed as a safe spot for all of your documents and other digital goodies, the WD Sentinel RX4100 is easy to set up and operate. Featuring RAID protection, automatic server-based backup, and restoration options, the unit also packs in network attached storage (NAS) and iSCSI SAN features.

The WD Sentinel RX4100 comes with the Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials operating system and software to back up 25 Windows and Mac OS (via Time Machine) client computers on the network. It also has the option for remote access and third-party disaster recovery via KeepVault online storage, which comes standard in the WD Sentinel RX4100 dashboard.

"Following upon the success of our first SMB storage server, the WD Sentinel DX4000, we are responding to customer and partner requests to expand our portfolio with a solution for customers that have a rack-based computing infrastructure," said Thomas Gallivan, vice president of marketing for WD's SMB solutions group. "The WD Sentinel RX4100 delivers a unified storage solution that's easy to install, seamlessly integrates into Windows environments with Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials, and offers complete data protection and secure remote access to a business's data."

The WD Sentinel RX4100 is now available in 8TB ($1,899), 12TB ($1,999), and 16TB ($2,349) capacities. The company is shipping each model with a three-year limited warranty.
