Hewlett Packard Enterprise Unveils Integrated Backup and Recovery Suite

The new offering combines HPE’s Data Protector, Storage Optimizer, and Backup Navigator systems into a single package with built-in tools for backing up data more efficiently and reliably.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise, of Palo Alto, Calif., has launched a new integrated backup and disaster recovery solution.

Called the HPE Adaptive Backup and Recovery Suite, the system turns HPE’s stand-alone Data Protector, Storage Optimizer, and Backup Navigator systems into a single package equipped to prioritize critical workloads, predict resource conflicts, and expedite recommended remediation steps that can increase BDR efficiency and reliability while driving down costs.

Pricing for the new suite, which is available immediately, starts at $6,200 per terabyte and scales down based on the volume of data being protected.

“Organizations are under immense pressure to manage and protect growing volumes of data that is outpacing their IT budgets,” said David Jones HPE’s senior vice president and general manager of information management and governance, in a press statement. “With the HPE Adaptive Backup and Recovery Suite, IT departments can leverage analytics to optimize data management and protect what matters most while driving efficiency, system reliability and compliance across their environments.”

Data Protector is HPE’s core backup and recovery solution. Storage Optimizer helps administrators manage backups more efficiently by classifying data based on its value. Backup Navigator adds analytics, reporting, and data monitoring functionality that can identify protection gaps, forecast future backup resource requirements, improve existing resource utilization, and proactively resolve BDR-related errors.

While those products complement one another when used separately, HPE says, combining them into a suite enables businesses to augment insights into enterprise data, collect time and cost savings, and mitigate risk.

“The increasing amount of data, combined with antiquated information management systems, is holding back organizations from developing new products and services,” said Nick Sundby, consulting director of analyst firm IDC’s European Storage Group, in HPE’s press release. “A software suite like HPE Adaptive Backup and Recovery, which helps organizations from the start to the end of their data protection journey—that analyzes, then protects and optimizes the backup processes and infrastructure in a secure, automated way—will set the benchmark for modern, self-optimizing backup and recovery solutions.”

The latest addition to HPE’s backup and recovery solution portfolio arrives just over a month after the vendor’s Global Partner Conference, during which it released new hyperconverged infrastructure systems, new “as-a-service” payment options, and a new cloud-based managed services administration tool from its Aruba networking unit, as well as new competencies within its partner program.
