Sales of ink and toner are down for the first time in two years. Subscription purchasing plans like HP’s Instant Ink offering and efforts aimed at helping partners sell more effectively online are core elements of a campaign to reverse that trend.

Part of the vendor’s increasingly strategic device-as-a-service program, the new offering is part of a larger shift from transactional to contractual customer relationships highlighted today by CEO Dion Weisler (pictured) at HP’s Reinvent conference.

The new resource provides access to products, kits, and end-to-end solutions from over 30 vendors (including Cisco, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Microsoft) across a range of verticals (including retail, healthcare, smart buildings, and industrial IoT).

New capabilities introduced today by cloud exec Renee Bergeron (pictured) are designed to help channel pros mimic the best practices of resellers who emphasize client acquisition and customer service rather than backend operational processes.

Speakers at the distributor’s Cloud Summit event, including Morgan Stanley executive Carla Harris (pictured), agreed that to thrive in an overwhelmingly male industry women must both expect and strategize to win.
