HowTo: Integrate CyberHoot with ConnectWise PSA (Autopilot Platform)

This guide walks you through setting up and managing the CyberHoot–ConnectWise PSA integration using the CyberHoot Autopilot Platform. Once connected, the users of the ConnectWise companies you map to CyberHoot tenants are automatically enrolled in CyberHoot cybersecurity training and kept in sync every night.

What the integration does:

  • Companies: ConnectWise companies that you map to CyberHoot tenants have their users synchronized into CyberHoot.
  • Users: every active user of a mapped company who has an email address is added to CyberHoot for cybersecurity training. Users marked inactive in ConnectWise are skipped, and archived in CyberHoot if they were previously synced.
  • Schedule: synchronization runs automatically once a day, around 12:30am in your deployment’s time zone. You can also run it on demand with Sync Now.
  • Read-only: CyberHoot only reads companies in your ConnectWise PSA instance and contacts of those companies. It never writes to your ConnectWise instance, and it only uses this information for cybersecurity training.

1. Create API credentials in ConnectWise PSA:

CyberHoot needs API credentials to talk to your ConnectWise account. Create them in ConnectWise first, then bring them to CyberHoot.

  1. In ConnectWise PSA, go to System > Security Roles and create a role (for example CyberHoot API) with Inquire (read-only) access to Companies > Company Maintenance and Companies > Contacts.
  2. Go to System > Members, open the API Members tab and click + to create a new API member. Assign it the read-only role you just created and save.
  3. On that API member, open the API Keys tab, click +, give the key a description of CyberHoot and save. Copy the Public Key and Private Key. The private key is only shown once.
  4. Sign in to the ConnectWise Developer Network (developer.connectwise.com), open ClientID and register a new ClientID for the CyberHoot integration. Copy the generated Client ID.
  5. Note your Company ID (the company you sign in with) and your API host for your region.

You will need the following values in the next step:

  • ConnectWise Site URL – your ConnectWise API host, for example https://api-na.myconnectwise.net (use api-eu or api-au for the EU or AU regions, or your own server URL if you are on-premise).
  • Company ID – the Company ID you use to sign in to ConnectWise PSA.
  • Public Key – the public key generated for the CyberHoot API member.
  • Private Key – the private key generated for the CyberHoot API member.
  • Client ID – the ClientID you registered on the ConnectWise Developer Network.

2. Connect to CyberHoot on Autopilot:

  • On the CyberHoot Autopilot platform, navigate to Partner Dashboard > Integrations.
  • Select ConnectWise PSA and click “Get Started”.
  • Enter the values you collected in step 1: ConnectWise Site URL, Company ID, Public Key, Private Key, Client ID.
  • Click “Connect to ConnectWise PSA”. CyberHoot validates the credentials against ConnectWise before saving them.

Note: If the connection fails, double-check the ConnectWise Site URL and make sure the credentials were copied without leading or trailing spaces.

3. Map Companies and Sync:

  • On the same page, click “Map Companies”. CyberHoot lists every company in your ConnectWise account on the left with a drop-down of your CyberHoot tenants on the right.
  • For each ConnectWise company you want to train, pick the matching CyberHoot tenant from the drop-down. You can also choose Create as a new Automatic tenant (training starts the next day) or Create as a new Power tenant to have CyberHoot create the tenant for you.
  • Click “Map Companies” at the bottom of the window to save the mappings.
  • Click “Sync Now” to perform the first synchronization. The Sync Log shows how many customers were updated and how many users were added, updated or skipped.

Note: When looking at the users within a mapped CyberHoot tenant, the user “Type” will show as “ConnectWise”.

4. Ongoing Management:

  • New users added to a mapped company in ConnectWise are picked up automatically at the next nightly sync (or immediately with Sync Now).
  • To stop training a user, mark them inactive (or remove their email address) in ConnectWise. They are archived in CyberHoot at the next sync.
  • To start training a new customer, map their ConnectWise company to a CyberHoot tenant using “Map Companies”.
  • The Last Sync Time and Sync Log on the integration page show what happened during the most recent run.

5. Removing a Company:

  • On the CyberHoot Autopilot platform, navigate to Partner Dashboard > Integrations.
  • Select ConnectWise PSA and click “Map Companies”.
  • Click the red “X” next to the company you want to remove, then click “Map Companies” to save.
  • Click “Sync Now” to complete the removal.

Note: Unmapping a company archives all synced users of that tenant in CyberHoot. You can easily add them back by mapping the company up again and running a sync.

6. Disconnecting Integration (If needed):

  • On the CyberHoot Autopilot platform, navigate to Partner Dashboard > Integrations.
  • Select ConnectWise PSA and click “Disconnect”.

Note: Choose the option below carefully.

If you want to continue using CyberHoot without the integration with ConnectWise, choose “Disconnect & Set Local”. This will set all synced users to be locally managed within CyberHoot.

If you plan on archiving all synced users within CyberHoot after disconnecting, select “Disconnect & Archive”.

Disconnecting removes the integration settings and company mappings from CyberHoot. CyberHoot never changes anything in your ConnectWise instance.
