On the surface, this year’s smartphone vote went exactly like last year, with the same companies placing in the same order. Look a little deeper, though, and you’ll find evidence of momentum by Korean hardware giant Samsung that should give folks at Apple Inc. pause. In 2013, Samsung beat Apple in the smartphone category by just 7 percent. This year the company’s margin of victory was more than 18 percent.
