ASRock is known to me as a company that has innovative thinking in how they want to differentiate themselves from their competition. This board is an example of a H55 chipset board on the micro-ATX form factor. It has the Combo Cooler Option which allows you to use either a LGA-1156 or LGA-1366 heatsink on the motherboard, support for HDCP through the DVI-D port and multi-monitors with the two display connectors. Performance is OK with decent performance with the integrated graphics and the... - read more

GIGABYTE has really outdone itself with the X58A-UD7 motherboard. They name their boards by the number of features on the board and the X58A-UD7 has the most features of any of their boards. This board supports the latest technologies including SATA 3.0 and USB 3.0. The board supports dual-slot 3-way SLI with four PCI Express slots allowing for the ultimate gaming machine with the upcoming Gulftown CPUs. GIGABYTE’s motherboard overclocks to over 3.7GHz from the standard 2.66GHz on standard... - read more

The MSI 890GXM-G65 is an interesting board in that it has the features to be among the best in the business with the support for both USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps. The bundle is rather lackluster as I would like to have seen at least two SATA Data cables, one is a bit disappointing. Performance was right up there in terms of the Mainboard performance and was the highest in terms of integrated performance. Overclocking options were a plenty on this board with 3.3GHz easily done on the Phenom II x4 810... - read more

AMD has launched their 890GX chipset to a lot of accolades for bringing the HD 4200 integrated graphics and SATA 6 Gb/second to the masses. Integrated graphics on this board are faster than any of the previous chipsets, and support DirectX 10.1 features that are the minimum they should support for today’s video chipsets. There is a caveat however, the integrated HD 4290 is not much faster which is a bit of a disappointment on AMD’s side of things. ASUS has done an outstanding job with this new... - read more

The ECS A890GXM-A Black Edition is a fine example of an 890GX motherboard. The performance of the board was right up there with other 890GX boards and the board overclocked well. One issue with the ECS board was the lack of USB 3.0 support in terms of features of the board. USB 3.0 is rapidly becoming the standard for motherboards, along with SATA 6 Gb/second ports. This board has all of the connections necessary to build a HTPC including DP, DVI, HDMI and VGA ports. The only other negative is... - read more

GIGABYTE has a well-rounded board here with the 890GPA-UD3H motherboard with good performance, good feature supported by both the chipset and other chips. The inclusion of USB 3.0 ports on a 890GX motherboard is a no-brainer as the other standard, SATA 6 GB/second is supported by the chipset natively. USB 3.0 support is added by a NEC chip. Performance was very close to the other 890GX chipset board I’ve tested and this board is available online for a price of $149.99. If you’re looking for a... - read more

ASUS has taken the successful X58 chipset and added features like support for the next generation Intel 6-core CPUs, SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.0 and more to their X58 lineup. These results in the most feature-rich motherboard on the X58 platform I have ever seen. Performance is as to be expected from a high-end board like this one and the layout of the motherboard is excellent. ASUS offers excellent support through their website and has a Support telephone system as well. This board earns a solid... - read more

ASRock has taken the H55 chipset and added some features most motherboards on this chipset don’t have. The ability to overclock the CPU and internal graphics by up to 50% is a great thing especially since the CPUs in question have some room to overclock. The H55 chipset is meant for the casual gamer with support for DirectX 10 on the Intel GMA HD. The board supports up to two ATI cards in Crossfire mode including the HD 5970 for four GPU actions, which is great for the power gamer. Performance... - read more

GIGABYTE has taken their already very successful P55A-UD6 board and improved upon it. They added a NF200 chip to allow for extra PCI Express lanes and the ability to do 3-way SLI or Crossfire on this board. The second feature they include is the Hybrid Silent-Pipe accessory which cools the chips that run notoriously hot by putting a heatpipe module to transfer the heat. The other improvements include 10 SATA ports, and the USB 3.0/SATA 3.0 support from the other board. This board offers the... - read more
