GTDC and IDC Unveil New Tools for Analyzing North American Sales Data

New partnership provides enhanced information gathering, analysis and tracking resources for tech distribution sales

TAMPA, FL and NEEDHAM, MA — FEBRUARY 22, 2022 — The world’s leading consortium of technology distributors – the Global Technology Distribution Council (GTDC), is announcing the launch and results of its recent partnership with International Data Corporation (IDC). The IDC North America Weekly Distribution Tracker, powered by GTDC, and the North America Weekly Distribution Tracker collect and analyze weekly sales data from the council’s member organizations in the USA and Canada.

Following the preliminary announcement about the partnership last fall, IDC and GTDC have refined the methodologies and tools for delivering the most accurate market intelligence and analysis for the IT industry. Leveraging a combination of technologies and services with sales data from GTDC member companies, the organizations can now share even more accurate and timely information on current trends and the state of the technology marketplace. IDC uses actual raw data −not projections – and authenticates all values back to 2018. Those controls and validations allow the research firm and GTDC to present a fair and accurate picture of the goods and services sold through North America IT distribution and standardize units and currency within the region.

Those enhancements come at the perfect time as some of the uncertainties associated with the pandemic appear to be easing. “Our members have a lot of reasons to be optimistic about 2022,” said Frank Vitagliano, CEO of GTDC. “IDC’s first North America Weekly Distribution Tracker reports that year-over-year revenue rose 7.2% in 2021 following a 2% increase in 2020. Continued growth in demand and diminishing supply chain issues are positive signs for the industry and, thanks to IDC, we can more closely monitor and report on the market trends.”

“With IDC’s considerable resources and extensive market information and GTDC’ exclusive sales data, we now provide a more complete picture of the technology market and can better evaluate the routes to market from supplier to end clients,” emphasizes Eric Prothero, senior vice president, Data Solutions at IDC. “Our clients can leverage both North America Distribution Trackers to gain greater insight on the latest sales numbers and longer-term trends to make more informed decisions.”
