Not long ago, storing and protecting a billion megabytes (aka a petabyte) of data was a challenge only big businesses faced. As even small companies accumulate videos, analytics databases, and more in escalating amounts, however, petabyte-sized storage is about to become everyone’s problem, according to Douglas Brockett, president of StorageCraft Technology Corp.
“What used to be an anomaly, will start to become the norm for SMBs and mid-size organizations,” he predicts in an emailed analysis. “Mid-sized organizations in particular will find their IT architectures simply can’t scale with their data growth.”
Most of those businesses won’t have the skills or budget to rectify that problem either, Brockett continues. As a result, he contends, “the demand to bring data management, protection and cost-effective scale out storage into a single frictionless environment will rise.”
